Study on Antibacterial Activity of Water Extract of Galla chinensis Against Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae.

Galla chinensis water extract packs a powerful punch against superbugs! This natural remedy shows promise in tackling the global threat of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae, a major public health concern. Researchers uncover its ability to significantly inhibit bacter...
This study systematically evaluated the antibacterial activity of Galla chinensis (GC) water extract against a range of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) strains. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the GC extract was found to span between 3.9 and 500 mg/mL, effectively inhibiting bacterial growth at 62.55-500 mg/L. Growth curve analysis demonstrated that the GC extract significantly inhibited bacterial growth at both 1/4 and 1/2 MIC doses, with complete inhibition at 1 MIC (p < 0.01). Further analysis revealed an increase in the expression of carbapenemase genes, suggesting the GC extract's ability to disrupt resistance mechanisms. These findings highlight the potential therapeutic application of the GC extract in combating multidrug-resistant bacteria, offering a promising avenue for addressing the global antimicrobial resistance crisis.
