Global disease burden of inflammatory bowel disease in women and women of childbearing age from 1990 to 2021 and its prediction to 2040.

This comprehensive study analyzed the global burden of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) among women and women of childbearing age (WCBA) from 1990 to 2021, using data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021. The researchers found a significant global decline in the age-standardized prevalence, disability-adjusted life-years, and mortality rates of IBD among women during this period. However, the trends varied across different sociodemographic regions, with some areas experiencing concerning increases, particularly in East Asia, Australasia, and high-income North America. The study also highlighted persistent health inequalities, especially in India. These insights can inform tailored interventions and policies to address the unique challenges faced by women and WCBA affected by IBD, ultimately promoting more equitable and effective healthcare.
