The Helix Brief

Expanding PrEP Access by Embedding Unannounced SNAPS Navigators in High STI Testing Clinical Sites.

Unannounced PrEP navigators boost access in high-risk clinics, but adherence lags - more support needed to retain diverse populations on this lifesaving HIV prevention.
This study implemented a PrEP navigation program ("SNAPS") in a NYC safety-net hospital, co-locating navigation, clinical services, and payment assistance. Post-SNAPS, the patient population was more diverse but had lower medication possession ratios compared to pre-SNAPS. Cisgender men and MSM were more likely to be retained in care. While the program expanded PrEP access, continued investments are needed to strengthen adherence and retention, especially for underserved groups vulnerable to HIV.
