Smart nurse call systems outperform traditional phone-based Blue Code systems, slashing response times and boosting survival rates for cardiac arrest patients - a game-changer for hospital emergency care.
This prospective observational study compared the effectiveness of traditional telephone-based (2222) Blue Code activation versus smart nurse call systems in 620 cardiac arrest patients at a hospital in Istanbul. The smart systems achieved significantly faster response times, with 76% of teams arriving within 3 minutes compared to 50% in the traditional system. This translated to higher rates of return of spontaneous circulation (38.3% vs 28.5%), hospital discharge survival (18.8% vs 10.9%), 30-day survival (16.6% vs 9.0%), and neurological survival (14.0% vs 7.1%). These findings support the adoption of modern communication technologies to improve emergency response and patient outcomes in hospital settings.
